Requirements to meet

We have a need for a user to be able to manipulate data from Oracle tables and queries simply and without fuss on a regular basis.

Issues to tackle

No funding was available to send the user on specialised Oracle or SQL courses so we needed a way of being able to extract the data so that it could be manipulated within a standard office tool, i.e. Excel.

Approach taken

Several approaches were examined before deciding to try the SQL*XL product such as defined queries and preformatted outputs from Oracle but these did not meet the criteria needed by the user.

Results

Use of SQL*XL provided the solution we needed. All the users needs were met as were the needs of IT and management.
