Requirements to meet

Upload lookup table information to a large datamart.

Issues to tackle

Customer updates Excel spreadsheets which are forward to us (the contractor).

Approach taken

Used to use Oracle SQL*Loader which is very complex and requires highly trained/skilled personnel. Could have used Oracle external tables, but that requires the source files to be on the server, not the client. SQL*XL allows this information to be inserted into the lookup tables very quikly with a minimum of intervention by the highly trained/skilled personnel.

Results

Very satisfied.
