Requirements to meet

Load of a huge quantity of datafiles (650 files) into a Data Warehouse (Oracle database)

Issues to tackle

The hystorical data was loaded into SAS datafiles on a OS390 architecture, while our Oracle db server is a HP/Unix system. Development PC are connected to the Mainframe and to the HP system through a LAN.

Approach taken

Data has been transformed from SAS to excel format. A VB macro has been developed for mechanizing the load process with SQL*XL into Oracle db (OO4O connection type has been set to the Oracle 9i db).

Results

No problem at all even when launching loading sessions of more than 150 datafiles. SQL*XL is quick and safe. Very satisfied and very Impressed!
