Windows: remove empty directories

Windows: remove empty directories

The following command will remove empty directories in windows.

I needed to remove empty directories from a network drive. I mapped the newwork drive as the Z:\ drive. Then I ran the following command from a DOS box:

z:
for /f "delims=" %d in ('dir /s/b/ad') do rmdir "%d"

Explanation:

z: moves to the z drive
rmdir removes directories. Windows will only allow it when it is not empty
dir /s/b/ad will list all directories (/ad) in bare format (/b), recursively (/s)
The for loop loops over all directories

Please use at your own risk!
