Van Hove singularity

A Van Hove singularity is a singularity in the density of states (DOS) of a crystalline solid.

The DOS g(E) is:
g(E)= C∫∫ (1/|▼E(k)|) dkxdky

When E(k) goes through a maximum or a minimum |▼E| goes through zero and g(E) has a singularity.
