Parity

MO's can be classified according to their parity,  their  symmetry  properties  under  inversion  of
the  electron  coordinates.

If under  inversion  a wavefunction remains  indistinguishable  from  itself,  and  hence  it  is classified  as  having  gerade  symmetry,  denoted  g.

In contrast, when a wavefunction changes sign under inversion,  so  it  is  classified  as  ungerade,  and denoted u.
