I don't really know if this is something you are interested but if not, I'd appreciate any advice as to where I should take this.

I found that in Excel 2010 (I haven't tried Word or the 2007 versions) When you try and choose one of the more secure types of encryption, it seems to silently ignore your settings, leaving you with a file that can be cracked in seconds eg at

This does not apply to the new file formats that are AES encrypted by default, only when you are saving down to the 97-2003 format.

decryptum then fails to decrypt as I would expect.

Am I right to be concerned?

To our opinion even in older versions of Office it is easy to loose the encryption settings. This is precisely why encOffice  was written. To provide an easy to use tool that ensures the highest security is used.
