Optimized effective potential method (OEP)

Find the potential, the same for all electrons, such that when given a small variation, the energy of the system remains stationary.

To find the local potential v(r) that yield single-particle orbitals which minimize the total energy (≡ KS potential )

Introduced by J. Slater (1951)
Formalism developed by R. Sharp and G. Horton (1953)
Applied to atoms by J. Talman and W. Shadwick (1976)
