litXLS to generate reports in Excel format

I work for a bank in Australia as a developer. We currently have a requirement to generate reports in the Excel format for the business on a desktop that does not have MS Office installed on it. Because this desktop is used only for generating the reports, the bank does not want to invest in installing the MS Office on this desktop.

I went through the API of the litXLS component developed by you and it sounds interesting to me. This component satisfy most of our requirements.

However before we go ahead and buy this component to include it in our development work, we want a Proof of Concept (PoC) to prove that the ActiveX component could fulfill all the requirements that we are looking for.

Quote:
1) The ActiveX component should work on a desktop which does not have any Excel component installed.

That is correct. litXLS works without a reference to excel or any ms office dll.

2) The component should be able to open a CSV file and convert it into Excel file format.

The component in itself does not do that however you can write a small program that reads the CSV file and dumps it into an XLS using the litXLS component.

The ActiveX component should be able to perform the following functions on an Excel workbook:
Adding of Excel worksheets to an existing workbook

Only one worksheet is possible.

Quote:
Selection of a range on a worksheet

You do not need to select ranges as the software only writes a binary file. There is no front-end.

Quote:
Formatting of specified cells on a worksheet (bold, italic, color formatting)

Formatting is limited with litXLS however you can set bold, italic. Color is not supported. Shading is.

Quote:
Drawing borders

Borders are supported.

Quote:
Freeze worksheet panes (less important)

Not supported.

Also, we would like to give the ActiveX component a try, for all the above requirements before we procure the component.

Sure. You can download the trial version. All operations work on on row 5.
