Ferroelectricity

Ferroelectricity refers to spontaneus electric polarization which is possessed by a material and can be reversed by applying an external electric field.

Ferroelectric materials undergo a phase transition from a high temperature paramagnetic phase
which does not have an electric polarization to a low temperature ferroelectric phase.

Typically, the application of electric field will polarize the material, however in ferroelectric
materials, the dipole moment occurs because of some structural distortions.

Examples:
BaTiO3
BiFeO3
BiMnO3
RMnO3 (R=Y, Ho, Lu)
TbMnO3
