scp: secure copy
 
scp, the secure copy utility in LINUX is a handy utility. I used to use FTP for file transfers but scp works far easier.
 
Syntax: scp source destination
 
Examples:
 
scp myfile.txt myserver:
scp myfile.txt myserver:otherfilename.txt
scp *.txt myserver:~/mydir

SCP: copy whole directories

SCP: copy whole directories
 
To copy a whole directory structure to another machine you can specify the -r switch.  
For example, to copy the mysubdir directory and all of its sub directories and files to another machine called othermachine you can use:
 
scp -r mysubdir othermachine:
