Using Oracle 11g virtual columns

Oracle virtual columns can be used in SQL*XL without problems. In Oracle 11g virtual columns can be part of tables, computed fields. To read more about virtual colums see:
http://www.oraxcel.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1232355973

Retrieving data from tables with virtual columns is no problem with SQL*XL. I tested it using the following providers:
ORAOLEDB - Oracle OLE DB
MSDASQL - Microsoft ODBC
OO4O - Oracle Objects for OLE
MSDAORA - Microsoft OLE DB provider for Oracle

Updating with an Oracle virtual column

Updating with an Oracle virtual column

It is possible to update a table with a virtual column, however you cannot update the virtual column itself. Logically. How should Oracle decide which base values to change!

In a multiple rows update any column apart from the virtual columns can be changed. If a value of a virtual column is changed the following error is received:

ORA-54017: UPDATE operation disallowed on virtual columns

The following error message was received using the MSDASQL provider: Microsoft ODBC for Oracle.
ORA-11519: Message 11519 not found; product=RDBMS; facility=ORA

I have not been able to find out what ORA-11519 means. I cannot code a friendlier message if I don't know what the error means unfortunately.
