Import CSV to SQL

Import CSV to SQL

To import csv files to SQL is the process of converting source data in the format of a comma separated values (csv) file into SQL statements for insertion into a database or to directly insert the data into a database. For both operations the SQL*Xl software can be used. The directly insertion into the database involves the least programming and is the easiest. Some however like to use SQL statements for documentation purposes, etc. SQL*XL can log all operations to the database in a log file however.

Convert to sql statements
To convert the data in a csv file to SQL insert statements you need to process the SQL file. You can do this by hand by copying and pasting chuncks of the insert statement into the data. I like to use the technique to read the csv file into Excel and use the Excel concatenate function to build the SQL string. Actually SQL*XL has a specialised function to build insert statements.

Please read the following topic for further information:

Import directly into the database
There is actually no need to first convert data in a CSV file to SQL insert statements. You can directly load the data into a database, any database, without programming a single line of SQL. You just need a good tool to do it for you. SQL*XL is such a tool. Just tell it which table should receive the data, the column names and the range where SQL*XL can find the values. If the table does not exist yet you can let SQL*XL create a new table.
Why not give SQL*XL a try today.

will you guide me how to impoer CSV file in object oriented database like oracle
by using SQL*XL

Just open the csv file in Excel.
Connect SQL*XL to the database.
Then use the multiple rows insert function to help you insert the data. If required, SQL*XL makes a new table in the database to store the data.
