ACCDB files: Access 2007

In Access 2007 databases are saved as ACCDB files instead of MDB files as the file extension is for older versions of Access. MDB databases are accessed through the Microsoft Jet driver. ACCDB requires a new version of Jet which Microsoft has called the Access Database Engine (ACE).

The ACE engine is fully backward-compatible with previous versions of the JET engine, so it reads and writes (.mdb) files from earlier Access versions.

Download ACE driver for Access 2007

If you do not have the ACE driver installed you can download the following free software from Microsoft:

2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components
AccessDatabaseEngine.exe
File size: 25MB

Connecting to ACCDB files with MS DLP wizard

Connecting to ACCDB files with MS DLP wizard

To connect to Access 2007 *.accdb files using the Microsoft Data Link Properties wizard you need to use the Microsoft Office 12.0 Access Database Engine OLE DB Provider. This OLE DB provider is installed from the 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components download.

Note that you must reboot before the OLE DB provider can be used. The installer does not ask you to reboot but is necessary nontheless.

ACCDB to Excel

ACCDB to Excel

ACCDB files, Access 2007 files, can now also be used with the SQL*XL software. Support for it was built into the SQL*XL software release 4.3.12. Prior versions can also connect using the MS DLP wizard from within SQL*XL. In version 4.3.12 support was added to the connections wizard to make connecting very easy.

Why not give SQL*XL a try today.
