Oracle Designer Debugging techniques

When the forms generator in Oracle Designer does not generate a form you can use the following techniques to debug the problem:

  • On warnings and errors in Designer you can put the cursor on the warning message and press F1. Designer will display a message with some hints.
  • When a FMB was generated you can open the FMB in Forms Builder to see where problems may be.
  • To quickly view the generated form the following setting can be made in the generator preferences under Web deployment:
The location where the forms modules are generated to:
    Server-local form path: \\server\share\dir\
The url to be used in the browser:
    Server base URL: http://webserver/dir/frmservlet?config=myconfig&

After generating the module, in the Message Window, the button List Action can be used to show the List Action window. Select the item Run form and press run. A browser window appears with the following address:
    http://webserver/forms/frmservlet?config=myconfig&/?form=\\server\share\dir\form&userid=user/pass@alias
I manually remove the &/ characters in the address to give:
    http://webserver/forms/frmservlet?config=myconfig&form=\\server\share\dir\form&userid=user/pass@alias
