Dirac delta function

The Dirac delta function δ(x) is the continuous equivalent to the Kronecker delta function δij.

Kronecker delta function:
δij = 1 when i=j and 0 when i<>j

Dirac delta function
δ(x) = 1 when x=0 and 0 when x<>0

The Dirac delta function can therefore be seen as an infinitely sharp peak at x=0. The total integral of the Dirac delta function is 1.
