Commutators and anti-commutators
Operator products are not commutative. Applying first operator A and then B is not usually the same as applying B first and then A. The commutator is defined as:
[A,B] = AB - BA
Here A and B are operators but you can also write this down for the matrix representations of operators A and B.
Two operators commute if [A,B]=0 or AB = BA
The anticommutator is defined as {A,B} = AB + BA
