Use php files with Visual Interdev 6.0
This article explains how to use php files in Visual Interdev as html files. Interdev should treat the files as html files offering the same functionality as the wysiwyg functions and the property palettes. Following the instructions below you can right click a php file, chose edit with Visual Studio. Then Visual Interdev will open the file and show the same window as with .html files. A HTML syntax highlighted editor with 3 tabs at the bottom: Design, Source, Quick View
The same procedure will work for any other type of file. Just put the extension below where you see php.
Following this recipe you can right click a php file and load it into Visual Interdev:
1. On the Start menu, click Run. Type regedit in the text box, and click OK.
2. Right-click HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, select New, and click Key.
3. Name the key .php.
4. Right-click .php , select New, and click String Value.
5. Name the string value Content Type.
6. Double-click Default and set the Value data to htmlfile.
7. Double-click Content Type and set the Value data to text/html.
To add syntax highlighting add the following keys to the registry:
Find HKLM\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\6.0\Languages\File Extensions
Add a new key called: .php
Edit the default value to: {316B19B5-B5F8-11D0-8199-00A0C91BBEE3}
Add a new value of type REG_SZ
Enter the value: HTML
To let Visual Interdev open the file in the HTML editor do the following:
Find key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\6.0\Editors
Find key: {C76D83F8-A489-11D0-8195-00A0C91BBEE3}
Find key: Extensions
Add a REG_DW value with name php and with value 28 (hexadecimal)
I found out that these registry keys were used using the sysinternals regmon utility. See
The registry changes are summarized in the attached .reg file.
