Capture database objects in Oracle designer

To define database objects in designer it is often handy to capture the design from an existing database. The steps below can be followed to capture the design of tables, views, packages, etc from an existing database.

  • Select the Server Model Navigator.
  • Use menu item Generate - Capture design of - Server Model
  • Source of Design Capture: Database
  • Complete fields username, password, connect (database alias), owner (the schema of interest)
  • Select an item from the following dropdowns to specify where the database objects should be stored in designer: target container, Capture implementations into, database user
  • Click the Objects tab
  • Select the database objects to reverse engineer
  • Capture the design
