Best timing to buy a fund

Best timing to buy a fund

I wonder what the best timing is to by a financial fund at the euronext stock exchange in Amsterdam. I think it may be best to buy a fund close to 11am when these funds seem to be traded.

I have purchased the AEX index fund at 8pm, after the close of the market. This is my experience:

day 1: placed the order at 20:00. AEX value 507.89, AEX fund value 514.47
day 2: order confirmed to be placed. AEX value 512.32, AEX fund value 514.67
day 3: fund purchased. AEX value 506.78, AEX fund value 519.06. 519.06 is my purchase price.
day 4: day after the purchase. AEX value 500.08, AEX fund value 513.58

It seems that not only is the AEX fund value a day behind the AEX index itself, placing an order puts an other day of delay in. Perhaps I had better waited until the next day (before 11am) to place my order. I would have had the feedback of the first few hours of trade of the index before putting the order in. Next time I will try to purchase at 10am or so to see whether that works better.

Historical data obtained from www.belegger.nl , www.iex.nl and from www.euronext.com.
Fund purchased through ABN AMRO internet banking

Trying it again today. I purchased the same AEX fund. This time I waited for the opening of the market and placed the order at 9:50. I think they are trading daily at 11:00 so I hope I can buy them at today's price.

day 1: placed the order at 9:50. AEX value 498 (prev. close 492), AEX fund value 491
At the end of the day the AEX value was 491 and the AEX fund value was 499
day 2: order was executed at 11:15. AEX value (close) 492, AEX fund purchase price 498.37 (close 499)

I just reviewed the details of the first purchase. The units were purchased at 14:50 so not at 11:00! That seems not to be true. The funds were still purchased a day and a half after I offered it at the ABN AMRO. Wondering when my second purchase will be done.

I was just adviced by the ABN AMRO that orders placed are canned at 15:30 and then executed at 15:30 the next day. The value of funds being sold or purchased is established between 10:00 and 12:00 in the morning of the execution of the order.

So ordering before 15:30 on day 1 will lead to a purchase being made on 15:30 hrs the next day at the price between 10:00 and 12:00 hrs on day 2.
