Select data from the database
To select data from the database into Excel SQL needs to be sent to the database. This is done through a SQL select statement, sometimes called a query.
SQL queries are usually run from the SQL dialog. If required the SQL*XL SQL editor can be started in this dialog to help further to create the SQL. A database tables navigator is included in the SQL editor and template SQL can be generated by right clicking the table name.
There is also the possibility to retrieve database data into Excel through formulas. The SQL*XL SQLQueryValue forumula can be used to do this. You would use this SQLQueryValue worksheet function to make BI dashboards or BI cockpits in Excel.

The results of a query can be put in Excel, Word or other output targets. The Resultset dialog is used to take your choice of options.
