Set SQL*Plus working directory

Set SQL*Plus working directory

When running scripts in SQL*Plus it is often necessary to set the working directory. E.g. when all the sql scripts are stored in c:\scripts you have to type the whole path when running a script:
@c:\scripts\myscript.sql

It is easier to run scripts if the full path could be omitted. You can omit the path when the working directory of SQL*Plus is set to the script directory. The same script could then be run as: @myscript

There is no command (to my knowledge) to change the working directory in SQL*Plus. I use one of the below two methods to set/change the working directory:

  • Create a shortcut to SQL*Plus and set the working directory to the script directory
  • Use File|Open in SQL*Plus to read a file into the command buffer. Opening any file will change the working directory to the directory of that file.

If anyone knows how to change the working directory of SQL*Plus without having to do any of the above, please let us know by replying to this topic!
