How to disable the internal PC speaker
Some beeps on errors etc are made by the internal PC speaker. Muting the sound on the PC has no effect on this as it only mutes the sound generated by the sound card.
To disable the internal PC speaker, follow the following procedure

  • In windows explorer, select This Computer
  • Right click and choose properties
  • Select Hardware and press the Device manager button
  • In the view menu select to view hidden objects
  • In the list of device drivers for non plug and play devices select: Beep
  • Double click it and disable it.

In windows 7 you also need to switch this off in the device manager. Now select View: devices by connection. Select the Beep device and disable it.
