Problems inserting into tables with autonumber / sequence / identity columns

SQL*XL user Kimmo from Finland asked the following question.

Question:
Inserting data using SQL*XL's multiple rows insert feature I got this error:
"Value error in field INSPECTIONJOB_ID".

This field is first and also key (autonumber) field so during insertion it must be empty.

Answer:
Auto number or sequence columns should not be included when doing inserts. The database will assign a new number for you. You cannot include the column and leave it blank.

When running the multiple rows insert feature of SQL*XL, make sure you do not include any autonumber or sequence columns in the column list.
