Restore the default XP zip file handling
24.05.06 at 10:40:29

How to restore the default XP zip file handling.

Windows XP has built in functionality to deal with zip files. You can open and create zip files. For these basic zip file operations you do not need additional software like Winzip or Zipmagic.

When you have used another program it is likely they have installed themselves as the default application to handle zip files. This is annoying as you may want to decide to continue using the free XP way to handle zip files.

To remove the association of zip files to other software open Windows Explorer.  To to Tools and Folder Options. Select the file types tab. Find the .zip file extention and remove any associations you see. This will restore Windows XP as the default handler for zip files.
