What to use for Oracle Server Name.

What should I used as Oracle Server Name when I try to connect to Oracle?
Bonnie from the USA asked the following question.
I have chosen to use the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle.
I add the database server name, type in the username and password, for the database/schema that I want to connect to, and click on "Test Connection", and this is what I get:
Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. Oracle error occurred, but error message could not be retrieved from Oracle.
I think you are missing a proper configuration of the SQL*Net. You should type the database alias and not the server name.
Use the Oracle tools to create a so called TNS Name or TNS alias or database alias. This will create an entry in the tnsnames.ora. You should enter this name in the server name field.
As a test of your TNS name configuration you can use the following MSDOS command:
tnsping your-tns_name
