Forgot password on Windows XP
03.04.06 at 12:08:04
A couple of weeks ago I was asked to come around to a friend's house to fix a PC. He lost his PC password, if I had any suggestions.
The resolution was surprisingly simpel. I booted the PC in safe mode by pressing F8 at startup. In the list of accounts the usual username for the PC and Administrator were shown. You need to choose Administrator. Usually that has a blank password. Just hitting return the PC will start up. If you have set a administrator's password you need to sit down again and think very hard!
Once the PC has started up with the Administrator account open control panel. Then open the users applet where you can reset the password on the user's account.
