Installation problems
10.03.06 at 12:51:03
Mike from the USA asked the following question:
It is possible that your SQL*XL software will not install on my PC. I don't know why; I've even tried to install it in Safemode (F8).
Strange. I am using the tools that microsoft have provided to make setup programs. By using their installers I must be playing the game by the correct rules...
If you get any error message please provide it. That may provide the clue to the problem.
Read this when you get an error 91:
When no toolbar or menu is showing in Excel read:
I will list some technical information so can hopefully find out what is the problem.
The SQL*XL installer will ask you to choose a folder to install the software in. If you have no privileges to create folders and files there it will fail.
The SQL*XL installer will also copy dll files into windows/system32. You can read here which files are involved. If you like these files to go elsewhere let me know. You can change it.
For a list of dlls see:
The SQL*XL dlls need to be registered in the registry. If this fails during the install no errors will actually be shown. The errors are in the event log (see here how you can inspect the event log and how you can send it to us for analysis:
You can try to register the dlls manually to see if there are errors. Run the following command: regsvr32 litsqlxl.dll. You may need to type the full path to litsqlxl.dll which is copied into your windows/system32 folder.
The SQL*XL installer will install MDAC. This is a set of files provided by Microsoft to update the data access libraries on your PC if necessary. This is seen as an upgrade of windows (albeit a minor one) and perhaps your administrators blocked this.
