How to do pre-insert processing
08.03.06 at 15:02:21

SQL*XL user Richard asked the following question:

Question:
Is it possible to "intercept" data from the spreadsheet so that we can do some basic processing before it gets to our table?

Answer:
Yes it is. I have not built in a way to do this in VBA yet. If you want I could look into this. I could create a facility that will call a pre-insert macro in Excel VBA.

Your best bet for the moment is to use a database trigger. Create a for each row pre-insert trigger in the database. This trigger will be called before the data will hit your table. You can do your basic checking or basic processing of the data in the trigger.
