Connecting to PostgreSQL
06.03.06 at 16:16:51

User Sean asked the following question.

Question:
Running simpel queries against my PostgreSQL gives strange errors:

Unexpected protocol character from backend (send_query);

I connect through the ODBC driver for PostgreSQL. What do I need to do to get around this?

Answer:
I investigated the problem. The ODBC driver seems a little instable. We tested the following query:
select * from mytable limit 100

This worked ok. Then we tried the following simpel where clause which produced the error:
[tt]select * from mytable where myid = 19 limit 100[/tt[

I suggest you download the OLE DB driver for PostgreSQL. We tested the queries against that driver/provider and we had a much smoother experience.

You can get OLE DB for PostgreSQL from: http://pgfoundry.org/projects/oledb/
