Different installation path
23.02.06 at 14:54:03

Margaret from the USA asked the following question.

Question:
Is there a way of changing the path of the setup from All Users to different folder?

Answer:
Yes there is.

  • 1. You can choose a different installation directory than the standard one that is suggested (<<program files>>\SQLXL)
  • 2. After the installation you can move the installation directory. At the moment no dll files are stored in the SQL*XL installation directory. This may change in the future so please check. (At the time of writing current version is SQL*XL 4.0.40)
The only thing is that Excel will loose it's link to SQL*XL. This is fixed when you double click the file sqlxl.xla after you have moved the directory. This will open Excel and recreate the SQL*XL menu and toolbar in Excel.
  • 3. You cannot move the installation folder to a different PC. There are dlls too that are required and most of these are in your windows/system32 folder. In addition you need MDAC and some registry keys. For installation on a different PC I suggest you run the installer on the other PC.
