Put value in a cell comment
28.12.05 at 09:50:56

Jorma from Finland asked the following question:

Question:
I would like to add some of the information as a comment and not as a cell value.

Question:
When you retrieve data from the database you can use the as comment clause to tell SQL*XL to store a value in a cell comment instead of in a cell.

Consider the following query: select ename, empno, sal from emp This will return the name, number and salary of an employee. If you want to store the empno value in a comment you woud use:
select ename, empno as comment, sal from emp

The comment with the empno value will be stored in the cells containing the ename value. Comments need to be created in a cell so there needs always be one value that you return in a cell before adding comments. Also, if you use two as comment columns only the last one will survive. For example select ename, empno as comment, sal as comment from emp will display the sal value in the comment and not the empno value. If your query does not return other values you can use a literal value, for example: select 'see comment', ename as comment from emp
