Retrieve details of computer's processor
05.12.05 at 09:36:56

Was experimenting a bit with some code snippets I found. I managed to create software that retrieves the details of the computer processor. Processor speed, the name and make of the processor. It looks like I can retrieve a lot more system information this way. If anyone is interested in this let me know.

Hi Gerrit-Jan,

This is very interesting for me as I sitt in the helpdesk.
To get a complete list of hardware and Software from the computers in the same net as I,
direcly down to an Excel sheet. This whould be very nice.

I know that there are a lot of tools for this. But I havent found any that does the job
direcly down to Excel.

A nuther thing ?
Have you ever tryed to make something in Excel to read the serial port ?

Hi Tony,

About Excel functions to retrieve computer hardware details:
If you can let me know what functions you would require I can have a look whether I can build them.

About Excel functions to read from the serial port:
In itself that would be possible but I doubt whether it would be useful. Can you elaborate why you would want this capability?

From my experience, gathering data into Excel from RS232 is useful for data-logging, or simple device control (balances etc). My background was with scientific uses. There are LOADS of solutions out there from COM objects to full applications. Tony, you really need to spend a bit of time looking for what these solutions do vs what you are trying to achieve. (some are even free)

all from 2 mins with Google
Have a browse. The hard part is understanding what you are trying to get done when talking to devices at such a low level.
