Connecting to Firebird
07.10.05 at 17:08:43

Connections to the Firebird database are working fine. An ODBC driver is needed but was not installed by default. You can download the ODBC driver from
http://firebird.sourceforge.net/index.php?op=files&id=odbc

To connect with SQL*XL to the Firebird database through ODBC use these instructions:
http://www.oraxcel.com/projects/sqlxl/help/techniques/connecting/firebird_odbc.h tml

If you need to create a new DSN, open the ODBC applet from your control panel (in the Admin section). Follow these instructions:
http://www.oraxcel.com/projects/sqlxl/help/techniques/odbc_data_source_administr ator/create_data_source.html
or more specifically:
http://www.oraxcel.com/projects/sqlxl/help/techniques/odbc_data_source_administr ator/create_data_source.html#firebird

The Firebird support is available from SQL*XL 4.0.24. It will be released soon.

Note that you can check the version of SQL*XL in the SQL*XL About dialog.

A user reported some problems connecting to a Firebird database today. Error litADO.clsADO.m_connect, source ADODB.Connection, error 3001.

I have checked the connections to my sample database. I used the connection wizard to establish the connection using sysdba as user, masterkey as password. It works fine. SQL*XL built the following connection string:

Provider=MSDASQL;DRIVER=Firebird/InterBase(r) driver; Dbname=localhost:C:\databases\EMPLOYEE.FDB;

You can edit your own connection string from the connection dialog. The editor will allow you to make manual changes.
